Tiwai Heritage Trail
Tiwai communities
Giema
This small community lies on the banks of the Moa River, on the mainland opposite from Tiwai Island's most Northern tip. It has many similarities with Jene, and they share many common features including a 'protective cotton tree'.

Famous warrior settlement
One of Giema's unique features is that it is home to Guinea-fowl, a usually wild animal, which they have managed to domesticate. Here you will be able to meet with the Hammock maker and learn the ropes, and maybe visit an ancient settlement where a once famous warrior used to live.
Artisanal diamond mine
Also, Giema is one of the villages on the trail that has an artisanal diamond mine in the nearby swamps. If you are interested in learning more, we will be happy to show you around.
