Nainiahun
Nainiahun, meaning 'Sand Village' in Mende, is one of the bigger villages on the trail. It was created 150 years ago by two warriors who had dreamed of Nainiahun's location as well as the surrounding cultural heritage sites.
Artisanal diamond mining
In the swamps close to the village, community members sometimes mine for diamonds using age old techniques to sift through the gravel; this has attracted a number of prospectors from Temne tribes, making Nainiahun a Mende/Temne mixed community.
Mysterious rocks
Close to the village is a cultural heritage site called 'Semegoti' (Rock Shelter in Mende). It is said that community members used to hide there during the 'tribal wars' and that it made them invisible at will. A fascinating place!
